Did you know makeup has an expiration date?

I know, I know! Not what you wanted to hear about your forty five dollar foundation or your twenty five dollar mascara! I feel your pain. With makeup product costs on the rise even at the local drug store I'd love to be frugal with my makeup and only use the good stuff on special occasions and hope a bottle of forty five dollar foundation lasts me the rest of my adult life! Unfortunately makeup products DO expire and often times they have a very short life span!

Most people have no idea but most beauty products have a little symbol on the bottom or back of the product packaging (most likely on the box not the product itself) that looks like a container with an open lid. Inside of the container contains the devastating number of months this product will last as soon as it is opened. Hints the" open" container.

If you can't find this on your product you can go by this general advise on the opened life of common makeup products.

Eyeliner: 6 months to 1 year

Mascara: 3-6 months

Blush, eye shadow, and other powder cosmetics: 1-2 years

Foundation: 6 months to 2 years

Lipstick: 2 years

Natural products: 3-6 months or less

So Sorry to break your heart and your wallet but GO NOW and look through your makeup bag for the foundation you saved pennies for in college ( 7 years ago ) and throw that thing away!!! Your skin will thank you !
